Our heat shrink tubing is perfect for protecting animation wire. It's also amazing at reinforcing and protecting bundles of twisted aluminium animation wire, increasing the durability and lifespan of stop motion armatures.
Even the smallest of marks on aluminum wire can weaken it. Heat shrink tubing helps protect individual wires from damage. When used on twisted wires, it helps to keep the wires together which in turn helps spread the load across all the wire increasing longevity.
Supplied in convenient 1 metre lengths, it is ideal for increasing the durability of high-stress movement areas in aluminium wire armatures. The tubing provides an added layer of protection that reduces metal fatigue during repeated frame-by-frame animation.
The tubing shrinks to approximately half its original diameter when heated, creating a tight, secure fit around your wire. Heat can be applied using a heat gun, boiling water or even at a low temperature in an oven.
Available in 10mm, 5mm and 2.5mm sizes, whether you're building a new puppet or strengthening an existing armature, this heat shrink tubing is an essential addition to any animation toolkit.
