2.5mm Heat Shrink Tubing

Our 2.5mm heat shrink tubing is the ideal choice for reinforcing thin-gauge aluminium animation wire. Its size is well suited for high-detail areas and helps increase the lifespan of your stop-motion puppets by providing a durable barrier against metal fatigue in your most vulnerable joints.

We use this heat shrink on all the hands and fingers of our armatures. It works particularly well on twisted strands of our 1mm Animation Wire as well as on single strands of our 2mm Aluminium Wire.

2.5mm heat shrink is perfect for protecting the small, repeated movements of fingers, hands, and wrists. Areas like these, where thinner wire is usually used are particularly prone to getting damaged. This 2.5mm sleeve acts as a "skin" to shield to help protect the wire from this.

When applied to thin twisted wire armatures, the tubing locks the strands together. This distributes mechanical stress across the bundle, significantly increasing the longevity of delicate, high-motion joints.

The added layer of protection reduces the impact of repeated frame-by-frame adjustments, keeping your wire characters workable for longer on a shoot.

With a 2:1 shrink ratio, this tubing reduces to approximately 1.25mm when heat is applied, ensuring a tight, secure fit around your wire. You can easily achieve a professional finish using a heat gun, boiling water, or a low-temperature oven.
