While twisting wire is a staple skill in the studio, manual twisting for large-scale rigs can be exhausting and inconsistent. Our pre-twisted 7-strand 2mm aluminium wire is produced for animators who need maximum structural support without sacrificing the iconic malleability of aluminium.

By skipping the manual labor, you can move straight from the workbench to character design and performance.

This is our densest twisted wire option. By twisting together seven strands of high-quality 2mm aluminium animation wire, we have created a powerhouse material that provides the rigid integrity required for larger puppets and heavy character rigs.

To achieve the highest level of durability, we recommend pairing this 7-strand wire with our 10mm heat shrink tubing. This is the exact method we employ for our AliExtra Armatures. Applying the tubing to high-stress areas like the lower legs and hips creates a protective sleeve that shields the wire from metal fatigue during frame-by-frame adjustments.

Choose the right strand count for every section of your stop-motion puppet:

• 7-Strand (2mm): 4 Metre length – Maximum strength for spines, heavy rigs, and large puppets.

• 5 Strand (2mm): 5 Metre length – Versatile support for standard legs and torsos.

• 3 Strand (2mm): 8 Metre length – High flexibility for arms, fingers, and smaller characters.
