Custom ProPlus Rig

At Animation Supplies, we pride ourselves on offering not just high-quality tools for stop motion animators, but also custom solutions for unique creative challenges. We had the opportunity to develop a bespoke rigging system for a customer working on a commercial project. The client needed to animate a credit card. He required convincing motion and came to us looking for a flexible, precise and affordable solution.

A Project That Called for Something Special

The animator had already been using our ProPlus Rigging System, a robust and versatile setup designed to support advanced animation techniques like running, jumping, and making characters fly. But this job called for something more: extra articulation and a way to securely mount a credit card for frame-by-frame animation.

Rather than starting from scratch, we used our ProPlus Rigging System as the foundation, then worked closely with the client to add the enhancements they needed.

What We Built

Here’s what made this custom rig special:

• Additional Ball and Socket Joints
  To allow for more expressive and natural motion, we integrated extra joints into the rig. This gave the animator greater control over the movement of the credit card, allowing it to hover, rotate, and tilt realistically.

• Attachment for the Credit Card
  Without having to make a bespoke component, we cleverly repurposed some of our existing parts. By using our Rigging Block we were able save our customer money whilst still providing a solid base on to which the card could be securely attached.

Designed with Production in Mind

Because the client was working on a tight schedule for a commercial shoot, ease of use and setup time were critical. We made sure we turned round the job quickly to fit his timeline.
