At Animation Supplies, we’re always excited to be part of projects that push the boundaries of creativity and animation. One recent highlight has been working with the Oddbod Creations on their hybrid short film Snood Weasel. It's a production blending stop motion animation, live-action puppetry, and CG effects.
Snood Weasel isn’t your typical animated film. By combining three distinct techniques, stop motion, practical puppetry, and computer-generated imagery (CGI); Oddbod Creations have crafted a visually striking and original piece of storytelling. This inventive mix allows the film to retain the handmade charm of stop motion and puppetry while enhancing it with seamless digital effects.
At Animation Supplies, we played a key part in helping to bring the Snood Weasel puppets to life. Using our stop motion armature components, we helped construct several puppets and mechanisms to meet the challenges of each production method. Poseable puppets capable of both intricate movement and expressive performances for Stop Motion. Free moving, fluid puppets for puppetry.
Our involvement didn’t stop there, we also supported the puppetry on set, ensuring that the characters were animated smoothly and convincingly during production. Combining our technical expertise with Oddbod’s creative vision meant that the puppets could perform in a way that felt alive, blending naturally with both stop motion sequences and CG enhancements.
Even in today’s world of digital animation, stop motion puppetry remains irreplaceable. The tactile textures, real-world lighting, and handcrafted movement add a layer of authenticity that CG alone can’t replicate. In Snood Weasel, the puppetry grounds the story in something tangible, while the CG builds on that foundation to add further realism to details like the character's eyes.
This combination is becoming increasingly popular in modern filmmaking, and projects like Snood Weasel prove just how effective it can be when executed well.
Working alongside Oddbod Creations was a fantastic experience, and we’re thrilled with the final results of Snood Weasel. Collaborations like this remind us why we’re passionate about supporting animators and filmmakers. Whether it's supplying bespoke armatures or offering hands-on puppetry expertise on set.
