At Animation Supplies, we love helping animators bring their characters to life and sometimes that means going beyond our standard kits to create custom components. Recently, we had the pleasure of designing and 3D printing a bespoke skull and chest block for one of our customers, specially tailored to work with our ProPlus Armature Kit.
A Skull Made for Expressive Animation
The main focus of this custom project was the 3D printed skull which was designed not just for structure, but for performance. This wasn't a static piece. We engineered the skull with:
-
An opening jaw: The customer wanted a mouth to enable character dialogue and consistent, repeatable movement.
-
Moveable eyebrows: The spec for this custom build called for subtle shifts in brow position to convey a wide range of emotions, giving the customer extra control over facial expressions.
By integrating these movable parts, we gave the customer a flexible, animation-ready head that maintains the durability and precision of a rigid component, while still offering real character expressiveness.
A Custom 3D Printed Chest Block
To accompany the skull, we also designed a 3D printed chest block, specifically shaped to fit the customer's puppet design and securely connect to our ProPlus Armature. The chest block provides a sturdy core structure for the customer's puppet.
Designed to Work Seamlessly with the ProPlus Armature
The ProPlus Armature Kit is built for professional-quality animation, and we made sure these 3D printed parts were fully compatible. The skull attaches cleanly to the neck joint, while the chest block integrates with the rest of the armature for a strong, modular build.
The result? A robust, highly poseable puppet armature ready for expressive scenes, whether talking, or full-on emoting, this custom build enables it all.
Custom Animation Solutions
This project is a great example of how we work with animators to develop solutions tailored to their vision. Whether you're designing a creature, character, or something completely unique, we're here to help with both custom 3D design and professional-grade armatures.
