At Animation Supplies, we love helping animators bring their ideas to life and sometimes, that means building something a little more unique. One of our most recent projects was a bespoke armature crafted using our professional-grade ProPlus Armature Components, combined with bespoke 3D printed components. It was tailored specifically to meet the needs of a customer working on a detailed stop motion production.
A Custom Build for a Unique Character
The client came to us with a clear vision: they needed a strong, highly poseable armature that could handle demanding animation scenes and integrate seamlessly with their character’s proportions. Our off-the-shelf kits weren’t quite right, so we worked together to design a custom solution based on our ProPlus ball and socket joints.
Every joint in the ProPlus system is precision-engineered in stainless steel, offering incredible durability and smooth motion, making it ideal for professional animators and studios looking for consistency across scenes. For this build, we adapted the scale and layout of components to match the client's puppet design, ensuring both stability and flexibility. We also designed and made several 3D printed components.
Tailored Features for Better Animation
This bespoke armature included:
-
Modified Arms to enable wire to be used to match specific limb proportions
-
Custom Printed Feet to perfectly suit the puppet requirements
-
Modified Head Connection The head of the puppet used an unusual attachment
We also provided design consultation to ensure the final puppet would be easy to animate and maintain on set.
Why Go Bespoke?
While our armature kits serve most animators well and formed the basis of this build, sometimes a character’s demands are just too specific for a one-size-fits-all solution. Our bespoke service lets you customise everything from scale and structure to rigging and accessories, all while using the same high-quality components trusted by professionals.
